With the Dragon Boat Festival approaching, online shoppers buying zongzi (rice dumplings) have become prime targets for scammers! Recently, a 50-year-old man surnamed Chen lost over NT$1 million after placing an order through a social media platform.

At the time, the seller provided a “logistics tracking link” and asked Mr. Chen to fill in his delivery details. Upon clicking it, the webpage displayed an “incomplete real-name verification” error, claiming the order had failed. It then directed him to add the logistics company’s “online customer service” LINE account. Subsequently, the fake customer service agent initiated a voice call, claiming a “cash flow anomaly required identity verification.” They guided Mr. Chen step-by-step through his online banking application. Trusting the instructions, Mr. Chen complied, only to realize he had been scammed when he noticed unauthorized funds repeatedly being transferred out of his account.
