As the summer vacation begins, the Campus Security Center specially reminds all faculty, staff, and students to pay close attention to personal hygiene management and practice healthy living while enjoying your vacation and participating in various activities. Let us work together to build a strong defense line for our health:

一、 Stay Vigilant with Holiday Pandemic Prevention: Implement Prevention for 6 Major Infectious Diseases

1.Respiratory Diseases (Flu, COVID-19): Please maintain good personal hygiene habits such as washing hands frequently and practicing proper cough etiquette. Wearing a mask is recommended when entering crowded places or healthcare facilities.

2.Intestinal Infectious Diseases (Gastroenteritis): Wash your hands with soap before meals, do not drink unboiled water, do not eat raw food, and use serving utensils (public chopsticks and spoons) when sharing meals with others.

3.Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye): When swimming or playing in the water during summer, please choose clean and safe venues. Avoid rubbing your eyes with your hands and never share towels.

4.Mpox & Dengue Fever (Travel Health Monitoring): When returning to Taiwan from endemic areas, please conduct self-health monitoring for 21 days for Mpox and 14 days for Dengue Fever (their respective incubation periods). When going out during the holiday, take anti-mosquito measures by wearing light-colored, long-sleeved clothing and pants, and using government-approved insect repellent. If symptoms such as fever, headache, or rash occur, seek medical attention immediately and inform the doctor of your travel history. For the pandemic prevention hotline, please dial 1922.

5.Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs): The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) provides the “Anonymous Syphilis Rapid Testing and Consultation Service for Youths/Students Aged 24 and Under.” If you have any questions, you can consult the “List of Sexual Health Friendly Clinics” for assistance.

二、 Food Safety & Healthy Diet: Strictly Adhere to the “Five Do’s” Principle

  1. Prevention of Food Poisoning: Please keep in mind the “Five Do’s” principle: “Wash hands, keep it fresh, separate raw and cooked food, mind the storage temperature, and heat thoroughly.” Avoid consuming food of unknown origins or expired items.
  2. Balanced Diet: Maintain a low-oil, low-salt, and low-sugar diet. Consume plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, and an adequate amount of water, and avoid binge eating during the holidays.

三、 Stay Away from Tobacco, Betel Nut, and Alcohol: Reject the Temptation of Addictive Substances

  1. Tobacco Refusal (Including E-cigarettes): According to the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, smoking is completely banned on all school campuses, and individuals under the age of 20 are prohibited from smoking. E-cigarettes are completely banned in Taiwan; please strictly adhere to the “Three No’s Policy”: Do not try, do not purchase, and do not recommend.
  2. Betel Nut & Alcohol Refusal: According to the Protection of Children and Youths Welfare and Rights Act, individuals under the age of 18 are prohibited from drinking alcohol and chewing betel nut. Please firmly stand by the “Do not try, do not accept, and do not invite/do not purchase” principles to protect your oral and physical health.

四、 Prevention of Heat Injuries: Mind the High Temperatures and Sun Protection

As summer temperatures continue to climb recently, please pay attention to sun protection, stay hydrated by drinking water at regular intervals during outdoor activities, and avoid prolonged exposure to the scorching sun to prevent heat injuries.

An extra ounce of care for your health brings a ton of peace of mind during the holidays. Wishing everyone a healthy, energetic, and safe summer vacation!
