Campus Security Center Notice for 115th Summer Vacation Student Activity Safety: Residential Safety—Do a Good Job in Home Fire Prevention; Enjoy Peace of Mind with Proper Ventilation and Electricity Use!

Have a joyful summer break, but never let your guard down when it comes to home safety! Whether you are returning home to reunite with family or staying in off-campus rented housing, maintaining a safe living environment is the foundation of a peaceful holiday. The Campus Security Center has specially compiled the following core points for “Home and Rented Housing Safety.” Students must thoroughly perform these safety checks:

1.Home Electricity Use and Fire Prevention: Implement Self-Inspections According to statistics from the National Fire Agency of the Ministry of the Interior, electrical fires, careless cooking over open flames, and left-behind ignition sources (such as cigarette butts) are the top three causes of residential fires. Students and parents are requested to periodically conduct autonomous home fire safety checks. You may visit the National Fire Agency’s website and download “Residential Fire Prevention Strategy 2.0” for reference.

(1) Do Not Overload Electricity: Check extension cords and electrical appliances to see if they are outdated, damaged, or broken. Never plug in too many high-wattage appliances simultaneously.

(2) Turn Off the Flame When Leaving: When cooking food or using an open flame, always develop the habit of “turning off the flame whenever you step away.” Before going out or heading to bed, double-check that all appliances and gas valves are turned off.

2.Preventing Carbon Monoxide Poisoning: Maintain Absolute Ventilation When using gas water heaters or gas stoves during the summer break, never tightly close doors and windows just to run the air conditioner; you must keep the environment well-ventilated! If symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, vomiting, physical weakness, or drowsiness occur while using gas-burning appliances, it is highly likely to be carbon monoxide poisoning. Please stop using the appliance immediately, open doors and windows for ventilation, and quickly move to an outdoor area with fresh air circulation. In case of an emergency, please dial 119 immediately, or seek help from the school, relatives, and friends.

3.Core Safety Checklist for Rented Housing: Prevention is Better Than Cure Students renting off-campus housing should take some time around the start of the holiday to carry out a comprehensive safety check on their rented property:

(1) Alarm Testing: Regularly test residential fire alarms (smoke detectors) to ensure they are functioning properly.

(2) Water Heater Inspection: Verify that the gas water heater is installed outdoors or in a well-ventilated location (if installed indoors, it must be a forced-exhaust type).

(3) Memorize Evacuation Routes: Personally walk through and familiarize yourself with the evacuation routes and emergency exits of your rented building, ensuring that hallways and paths are kept clear and not cluttered with miscellaneous items.
